Perrier-Jouët 1874 vintage sets a new auction record at Christie’s
Founded in 1811 in Epernay, Maison Perrier-Jouët is one of France’s most historic champagne houses, but also one of its most distinctive. Renowned for its floral and intricate champagnes, which reveal the true essence of the Chardonnay grape and an enduring tradition of savoir-faire — Perrier-Jouët has an unparalleled expertise of only seven Cellar Masters since its foundation.
Back in February 2021, Perrier-Jouët and Christie’s announced a two-year global collaboration, offering collectors opportunities to experience prestigious cuvées. It therefore came as no surprise to see the boutique Maison entrust Christie’s with a selection of exceptional champagne from its Oenotheque, in their “Finest and Rarest Wines & Spirits” auction in London on December 2nd/3rd 2021.
Amongst the selection offered by Perriet-Jouet was an exceptional 1874 vintage, which achieved £42,875, setting a new auction record for a bottle of champagne sold at Christie’s.
The Perrier-Jouët Brut Millesimé 1874 had previously set a record when it was sold at Christie’s in 1888 and became the most expensive champagne sold at auction at the time. The auction represented a tremendous success for Maison Perrier-Jouët, with all the lots on offer reaching notable prices, exceeding the estimates and the trends for the champagne market.
