Dive into Bulgari's Blue Lagoon

Mother Nature's magic has yet again been proven at the smack of the auctioneer's gavel, when an exquisite and rare blue diamond was sold at Sotheby's in Geneva for over $25million last week.

Rarely seen in public, since its acquisition in the 1970s by the family who sold it during Geneva's Luxury Week, the diamond, originally set in a ring, to show off its incredible faceting,  was most recently mounted as the pendant to a Bulgari High Jewellery necklace and worn by the actress Priyanka Chopra at the Met Gala in New York, on May 1st.

The Bulgari Laguna Blu is an exceptional 11.16 carat Fancy Vivid Blue diamond, cut as a pear-shape. The diamond's rarity is explained by the fact that less than ten Fancy Vivid Blue diamonds, over 10 carats, have come to auction in the past few decades.

It was last sold, when the Roman jewellery house was at the forefront of Hollywood glamour, famously a favourite of Elizabeth Taylor, and went to town with gorgeous coloured gemstones set in its sumptuous jewels.

Its name 'Blue Lagoon', perfectly describes the incredible bright blue hue of this very rare marvel, created inimitably by Mother Nature.
