Bulgari unveils new Serpenti secret-watches at LVMH Watch week
Inspired by the iconic design from the 1950’s and paying tribute to the 80th anniversary of the first Bulgari secret watch, Rome based Maison Bulgari showcases the new Serpenti Misteriosi High Jewellery Watches.
“Secret watches” as the name would suggest refer to types of watches that appear at first glance to be jewellery only to then reveal a dial and watch movement when pressing a clasp. The spectacular jewelled Serpenti Misteriosi conceal a dial hidden inside the snake’s mouth and the new Piccolissimo mechanical movement.
The Art of miniaturisation, a mechanical innovation.
After leading the market of ultra-thin mechanical watchmaking with the Octo Finissimo, Bulgari now competes on ultra-small with its new movement called Piccolissimo. Previously equipped with quartz movements, the emblematic jewellery watch resolutely had to take up the technical and technological challenge of applying its high jewellery criteria into the best of watchmaking. Thus, the Serpenti Misteriosi High Jewellery Watches entered the haute-horlogerie world by being adorned with a dedicated new mechanical movement.
The Piccolissimo movement is one of the smallest in the world (12.30mm x 2.50mm), entirely conceived and produced within the Bulgari Manufacture in Le Sentier. The BVL100 calibre revives the very small mechanical ‘motors’ that equipped all women's watches until the early 1970s.
