Gooding & Company’s yearly Amelia Island Auctions is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for automotive collectors and aficionados.

Located at the classic beachfront Omni Amelia Island Resort, the event is destined to enthusiasts looking for a beautiful and inviting warm getaway. This year the event took place on March 2nd & 3rd and saw an exceptionally curated line-up of cars including a trove of classic Ferraris. Amongst them was a 250 GT Tour de France Berlinetta, a 250 MM Spider, a 275 GTB/4 and a 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider, and the star of the show: a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider.

Launched in 1957, the 250 GT California Spider, designed by Pininfarina on the back of the 250 GT Berlinetta Coupé, is a top-level collectible.

The SWB California Spider version, which was presented at auction, was one of the 56 examples built and the only one made in the azzuro metallizzato colour for the 1962 New York Internatial Auto Show. True to its original design, the car which still holds its original body, chassis and driveline, has only ever been part of two Ferrari Collections to date. It explains why it was snapped up for just over US$18 million breaking the record for the most expensive car ever sold in the history of the Amelia Island Car show.
